Man arrested for derogatory Facebook post

Hakimpur (Hili) police arrested a youth named Jahangir Alam (42) from Hili Port area of Dinajpur for posting a derogatory Facebook post indicating the quota system of freedom fighters' grandchildren in government jobs. He was arrested from his home in Dharanda Mahalla of the upazila at 4 pm on Wednesday (June 19).

According to police sources, Jahangir Alam posted a sticker on online social media Facebook mocking the quota system for freedom fighters' grandchildren in government jobs, saying that 30 percent of the sacrificial meat should be allocated for the grandchildren of freedom fighters. There was a storm of discussion and criticism at the moment. When the matter came to the notice of former freedom fighter commander Liaquat Ali, he filed a case under the Cyber Security Act. Later, the police arrested him.

Dulal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Hakimpur (Hili) Police Station, said a youth was detained for posting on Facebook derogatory about the freedom fighter quota system. He will be sent to jail through a Dinajpur court on Thursday.
